How to Choose the Right Cattle Feed: A Simple Guide for Dairy Farmers

Choosing cattle feed can feel confusing — bag after bag, claim after claim. But picking the right feed for your animal comes down to just three simple questions. This guide walks you through each one, with the exact GOKA feed for every case.
1. How much milk is your animal giving?
This is the single most important question. A cow giving 10 litres and a cow giving 25 litres need completely different feeds — just as a small car and a heavy truck need different fuel.
- Under 15 L/day — Goka Green, Goka Star or Goka Smile
- 15–22 L/day — Goka Challenger 8000
- 20–25 L/day — Goka 8000+
- 22–28 L/day — Goka Gold 10000+
- 25 L+ or freshly calved — Goka Amrit or Goka Farmline

2. How much should you feed each day?
Once you have the right feed, the quantity follows one golden rule:
1 kg of feed for every 2.5 litres of milk, plus 1 kg extra for body maintenance. Split it into a morning and evening feed, keep the timing fixed every day, and always change feeds gradually over 7–10 days.
That extra 1 kg matters: an underfed animal milks off its own body — it loses condition, comes into silent heat, and fails to conceive on time.
3. What stage is your animal in?
Milking cows are only part of the story. Each life stage needs its own feed:
- Calf (4 days – 5 months) — Goka Calf Starter, for fast rumen growth (up to 200 kg by 5 months)
- Heifer (6 months to calving) — Goka Heifer, for frame growth and early breeding readiness
