HS (Gal Ghotu) — The Monsoon Killer That Gives You Hours, Not Days

Haemorrhagic septicaemia — gal ghotu — is the disease behind the oldest dread in cattle keeping: an animal fine at evening feeding, dead by morning. It strikes fastest in warm, humid spells, loves buffaloes especially, and moves too quickly for treatment to reliably save. This is the disease the annual pre-monsoon vaccine exists for.

- Sudden high fever with severe dullness — an animal that crashes within hours
- Hot painful swelling of the throat and neck region (the 'gal' in gal ghotu)
- Laboured, snoring breathing as the throat swells
- Heavy salivation, refusal of all feed

Feed Guidance
There is no feeding answer to HS itself — the honest guidance is a calendar entry: annual vaccination before the risk season, every animal, every year, with buffaloes the last ones you'd ever skip. Around that single pillar, reduce the triggers: avoid transporting or working animals through the worst humid heat, keep feed and water steady through weather breaks (stress is the spark), and maintain body condition so animals meet the season strong. If a case strikes: isolate immediately, call the doctor at once — very early aggressive treatment occasionally saves — and ask about protecting the rest of the herd right away. Vaccinated neighbours around an outbreak sleep; unvaccinated ones bury animals.
