Spring Green Fodder Flush - Feeding Guide

When spring arrives in Kashmir, fields turn green almost overnight and animals finally get fresh fodder after the long winter. But the sudden flush of lush young grass brings its own problems: bloat, loose dung and falling milk fat. A few simple precautions let your animals enjoy spring grass safely.

Transition to spring grazing over 10-14 days. Feed dry fodder or straw first thing in the morning so animals do not gorge on wet grass with an empty stomach, then increase pasture time gradually. Keep compound feed going at the standard rule - 1 kg per 2.5 liters of milk plus 1 kg maintenance - because spring grass alone, despite looking rich, cannot support serious milk production. If you see bloat (swollen left flank, distress), contact a veterinary doctor immediately - severe bloat kills within hours.
